USEFUL ITEMS TO BRING ON A HARLEY SAFARI

  1. Crash helmet – (Some airlines do not allow you to take helmets as hand luggage (carry-on luggage). You often won’t find this out until you’re already at the airport, so I now always put mine in my main checked luggage.)

  2. Motorcycle jacket

  3. Lightweight gloves

  4. Motorcycle boots

  5. Waterproof bike gear

  6. Motorcycle sunglasses

  7. Sunglasses cases / cloth bags

  8. Lip Balm

  9. Suntan lotion

  10. Lightweight synthetic clothing – such as T-shirts and underwear – can be washed in a hotel sink and dried overnight (cotton fabrics take too long to dry in this manner).

  11. Zipper-lock plastic bags of various sizes can be extremely useful for organizing items They can make it easier to find and retrieve particular items without unpacking your entire bag. Use the one-gallon size to pack one day's worth of clothes – jeans, undergarments, and shirt. This makes it easier to unpack just what you need. (Don't fold your clothes – roll them. They take up less space that way.)

  12. Safari hat for game drives and walks

  13. Clothing in neutral colours for safari: khaki, light brown/green, tan. Avoid bright colours & white for improved game viewing, especially when on foot.

  14. Comfortable safari hiking/walking shoes (not white). These are very important on a walking safari.

  15. Insect repellent

  16. Sunblock and after sun lotion

  17. Citronella or other body soap/shower gel

  18. Sunglasses - make sure they have polarised lenses.

  19. Wet wipes/hand sanitizer or no-water/antibacterial soap - very handy in the safari vehicle.

  20. Safari Binoculars. No safari packing list is complete without them.

  21. Flashlight

  22. Camera, memory cards, extra batteries, battery charger and lens cleaner

  23. Small bean bag to substitute a tripod

  24. Plug adaptors - generally in Africa it's 3-prong round or square

  25. Mini combination locks (keys get lost)

  26. Swimming attire

Although Born Biking Tours travels with a first aid kit please bring any on-prescription medicines such as:

  • Sanitary requirements (shops are sometimes few and far between, and very basic)

  • Contact lens solution & extra set of disposable lenses

  • Band aids & moleskin

  • Antiseptic cream

  • Motion sickness tablets

  • Heartburn remedy

  • Anti-diarrhoea medicine

  • Re-hydration salts

  • Cold/flu tablets

  • Allergy remedy

  • Malaria tablets

  • Prescribed medicine (enough to last your trip) - keep packed in your hand luggage in case of baggage delays

FOR THE LUGGAGE VEHICLE

Suitcases with wheels don't work very well in the African bush but they are adequate if you don't mind carrying them. (A good safari company will probably have someone on hand to carry your luggage for you). A daypack is very handy to transport the items you need while driving around in the safari vehicle or walking through the bush.
